I got a decent deal to Washington DC from DFW Airport. Round trip to fly to Dulles (IAD) and return to DFW from Reagan National (DCA) came to $146 round trip. So I flew out Friday evening to Washington DC.
First thing I did Saturday was go visit the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. I wanted to see the Space Shuttle Discovery as well as the rest of the planes inside. I stayed at a Hampton Inn with an airport shuttle, and was able to get the shuttle driver to take me to the museum since it is right next to Dulles. From there, I hopped the quick shuttle over to Dulles from Udvar-Hazy. At Dulles Airport, I got on the Silver Line Express Bus and took it to the metro in Arlington. From there I was able to get to the Capital Hilton, which is where I stayed the second night.
The Detroit Red Wings were in town, so of course I had to go over to the arena to see them. Before the game, however, I had to go check out the White House and Capital as well as walk around the northern part of the National Mall.
