Chase Recap:

One of the longer chase days I’ve had in awhile. Jeff, Andrew, Rachel and I left Norman pretty early with a target up near Concordia, KS along the KS/NE border in mind.

As we drove up, we ended up heading a little bit west than we had expected, ending up in Red Cloud, NE by mid afternoon. We sat around Red Cloud and then decided to drift a little south to check out the center point of the lower 48 states.

A storm started going up and we took our time to head that way. Reports of a landspout came in pretty quickly, and of course we missed it, but got on the storm shortly after it quit producing. The storm was photogenic, however, and we’d stay on it for a number of hours, following it back to Red Cloud, NE where we attempted a core punch.

The hail was unimpressive and so was the storm. We got some lightning photos and met up with Adam, Danny and Lorraine for a bit before heading to Superior, NE for Pizza Hut and driving home.

On the way home, gusts out of the bow echo that had formed to our south were hitting pretty high numbers, so we camped out at the Concordia, KS airport/ASOS site. The ASOS reported a 67 MPH gust.

It was a long, grueling drive home to Norman through the MCS, arriving home after 5am.
