Bust in North Texas

Chase Recap:

The 22nd looked to have potential from 4-5 days out. I started looking closely at this setup once it hit the NAM at 84 hours.

I took a half day off and left from Norman at noon and ended up heading out I-40 west in hopes the eastern Texas Panhandle would clear out. It didn’t, and eventually the SPC issued a Tornado Watchbox way further south in North Texas.

I was almost to the TX Border, and had planned on going to Shamrock and then south. I ended up bailing south before then and going down to Hollis and cutting through down to Quanah. I took a shortcut I had taken on April 26, 2009 on a dirt road. I found it to be completely impassable, and made a muddy mess out of my truck before getting through on a road a mile east.

I drove down to Seymour and got gas. The storms that were there were unimpressive and were definitely pulling in cold air. I basically ‘chased’ them until dark and gave up and headed to Wichita Falls where we ate at Chili’s.

All in all, a bust, but a decent chase for October.
